I’m much older than you. However, when I moved to Arizona and the hair on my head became curly with no logical explanation, and I quit wearing makeup (although I still pack it in my travel bag sometimes), my patience is almost nonexistent and everything you said resonates. How liberating for you! I’m listening to
So much resonation in this post Jo. Observe the masses and do the opposite has been my motto for decades and dancing to "Go your own way" and "The House of the Rising Sun". I go back a further decade than you Jo, and it is all good fun.
Haha - this made me laugh out loud! And I confess to probably being a life long member where the fees in the early days were slightly different 😜 My mother used to say that I was just awkward.
I've been paying membership fees for years, so I think I should have some good credit going on. I'm getting better at being a part of the IDGAF Club, but there are still some old habits that refuse to step aside. Sometimes I'll do something and will be asked why; my response is "Because I can".
Oh, the price, how the world sees the great divide of youth and the perpetual motion towards old age is full of marketing misinformation and observations of those caught in the web of the age-old belief that it won't happen to them. Explaining why your hands don't work as they used to and getting off the ground is akin to a rocket launch because of the energy required and the creaking of joints. Yet the internal motivation to be part of things that gets a raised eyebrow from those not in the club is what keeps me going, and the price of not keeping that alive is one I am happy to pay.
My partner and I - he 55, me 54 - were doing the maths and as long as we don’t get struck by the serious illnesses - we have at best 15 to 25 years of healthy travelling to do. So we are now as nomadic as our budgets will allow. Carpe Diem!
Love this Jo. Just keep being you ❤️

I’ve stopped wearing make up while traveling Julie. Just can’t be bothered! Also you cut off after ‘I’m listening to…’? Intrigued??
Yeah, I see that. I think what I meant was “too.”

Not quite 50 yet, but I’m knocking on the club’s door. There are so many things IDGAF about anymore.
The peace I feel is ah-mazing!
Right? That's the best word for it - peace! 😍
Nice :)

Happy to be a fellow member Stephanie and I love the name of your Substack ❤️
