Thank you for this detailed breakdown, Jo. It's really interesting and inspiring to see. We live nomadically on a narrowboat, so we don't always have the bright sunshine like you, but it is lovely all the same. I think I would find it hard to live in one place now.
I have a few streams, but haven't ventured into e-commerce (yet), so I look forward to following along and seeing your journey unfold in your business and travels.
Jo you are #goals! Iāve just joined Substack and started my journey as an empty nester traveler using my experiences as a lens for how to plan better trips. Iām writing for the joy of it right now and am open to the idea of it turning into a revenue stream as I grow. Curious whether you also work with brands to secure income streams and discounts writing genuinely about your experiences? Or is that not a part of your model?
Hey Tricia, welcome to Substack! ā¤ļø I have worked with brands many times over the years regards building online businesses & minimally in the travel space. But as I grow my Adventure List that will definitely be part of my model moving forward. Like you say, as long as itās a genuine experience I think itās a great way to monetise travel writing & create great relationships around the world! šā¤ļø
Nice and clear and I like the idea you can start a business that is in the non-famous model then become famous later. That is now true of indie publishing that later gets picked up as trad. Publishing. The first time I was aware of that happening was 50 Shades of Grey. Before that it was positioned as very hard to cross over.
Great article. I am interested in your game that you sell on Amazon. How do you do that while being a nomad? Is it something that is printed on demand? Games are stored in a warehouse? I am currently trying to figure out my next steps in life (and I am 50).
Inspiring, Jo! Glad I found you on Substack! I started mine about a month ago so I could launch myself in a similar way when my daughter flies off after high school. I've got about a year and a half to build into something steady and know it's possible. Every time I read yours I'll be reminded of success. Thank you for being here!
Iām delighted to be along for the ride!
Great info Jo, as always! I right there with you--aging disgracefully! š

Thanks Rebecca! I look forward to following your journey on your canal boat. Are you in the UK? I hope Spring is fast approaching. š¤š
Thank you, Jo. We are in the UK on the Kennett and Avon Canal. It's finally starting to feel like spring is here š
