Many years ago, I remember a student of mine contacting me filled with fear about pressing the ‘publish’ button on her brand new blog.
‘What are you scared of?‘ I asked her.
‘That no one will read it‘, she said.
When you first start out online building your audience, whether you’re dreaming of starting your own blog, sharing your travels on Instagram, or launching a side hustle to keep you exploring the world without draining your savings, the idea of putting yourself out there feels terrifying.
But the beautiful thing is no one knows who you are.
Sure it can feel discouraging at first because the likes, comments, and “ooh, I love this!” messages don’t come right away.
But in actual fact: this is a gift.
This is your chance to experiment, mess up, and try things out without the pressure of an audience scrutinizing your every move.
Maybe your first Instagram reel won’t go viral. Maybe your first attempt at a blog post won’t sound like the next “Eat, Pray, Love.” And that’s okay.
This is how we get better:
We try.
We publish.
We learn.
As you keep showing up, something magical happens.
You’ll find your voice.
Your audience—no matter how small—will start to connect with you.
They’ll tell you what they love, what they want more of, and you’ll get better with every single piece of content you create.
So if you’re hesitating to start your blog, write a book, or share your fabulous life experiences online, here’s my advice: relish your obscurity.
Embrace the crickets and be thankful for the tumbleweed blowing past your social account or website!
This is your time to play, to experiment, and to create just for you.
No one’s watching—yet.
That means you can try a new format, tell that story you’ve been sitting on, or write about something you’ve always wanted to explore.
Your dream life is waiting for you, and the only way to get closer is to take your first imperfect steps.
What will you create today?
Hit publish and enjoy this period of complete creative freedom!
It’s yours to do with as you please!
