Standing in Phuket International Airport earlier this year, I felt a familiar flutter of uncertainty.

After more than a decade of calling Thailand home, I was about to become truly nomadic – not just as a dream or a plan, but in reality.

The same journey I'd embarked on in my late 30s (and got slightly waylaid) now lay before me in my early 50s, and I was excited but nervous.

You know how your body starts having those "interesting conversations" with you as you get older?

My knees had definitely developed their own opinions about climbing temple steps, and I couldn't help wondering if I'd need afternoon naps between exploring cobblestoned European streets.

Plus, I'd gotten pretty cozy with my Thai life! I knew exactly which coffee shop made my perfect morning brew, which streets to avoid in the rain, and where to find the best pad thai at midnight.
